What is a Motion Capture Technician?
Motion capture technicians operate and maintain motion capture systems, ensuring accurate data collection of actors' movements. They set up the capture volume, calibrate cameras, apply markers or suits to performers, and troubleshoot technical issues during recording sessions. They are responsible for the quality and integrity of the motion capture data.
You spend the day preparing and maintaining capture setups: placing and testing suit markers, calibrating the capture volume, and running short calibration takes. Between sessions you clean and label capture files, log marker layouts and timestamps, and exchange files with animators and production via e-mail. Under time pressure you troubleshoot jitter, repair adhesion, and implement configuration control so animators receive reproducible, import-ready motion data.
