What is a Simulation TD?
Simulation Technical Directors (TDs) create realistic simulations of physical phenomena for animation and VFX. They develop and maintain the tools and pipelines necessary to simulate things like cloth, hair, fluids, and rigid body dynamics. They work closely with artists to achieve the desired look while maintaining technical feasibility.
On a typical day you sit at a workstation creating and refining 2D and 3D motion: scripting short sequences, modeling or converting real objects, and making them appear lifelike with lighting, texture, and shadow. You split time between solo pixel- and mesh-work and frequent face-to-face planning and progress tracking, maintain configuration control for assets, and meet tight delivery checkpoints under steady time pressure.
