What is a Human Factors Specialist?
Human Factors Specialists, also known as Ergonomists, optimize systems, products, and environments for human use. They apply psychological principles to understand human capabilities and limitations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and user satisfaction in complex designs.
You split time between desk analysis and on-site observation: emailing and calling stakeholders, running videotaped task analyses, conducting interviews and surveys, inspecting work sites, and preparing reports that recommend fixture moves or training requirements. Routine work includes establishing operating and training requirements and integrating human factors into hardware early so measurable ergonomics drive design rather than retrofits.
