What is a CNC Operator?
CNC Operators set up, maintain, and operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines. They load materials, monitor machine performance, and make adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications. They also perform quality checks and troubleshoot minor issues.
A shift is hands-on: you set up fixtures, mount and align cutting tools, load programs, and run CNC mills or lathes while standing at the control panel. Between cycles you measure finished workpieces with micrometers and calipers, adjust feeds and speeds, remove dull cutters, and perform basic maintenance. Time pressure and noise are constant; much of the work is iterative checks and small adjustments to keep parts within tight tolerances.
