Shifts mix diagnostics and installation: you read blueprints, connect wiring to control panels, assemble car platforms and doors, bolt or weld guide rails, and use test lamps, ammeters, and voltmeters to locate malfunctions. You disassemble defective units to replace gears, cables, and brakes, adjust safety controls and counterweights, then complete service reports and log books to verify code conformance before returning equipment to service.
