The four heights

The same task, four distances: today's deadline, the next reviewer, the stuck moment, the pattern.

Execute — do the immediate task

I need to invite 120 people to our industry networking event next Thursday at 6:30 PM at The Foundry. Send the invitation to everyone who RSVP'd to our last two meetups, our top 30 target accounts, and the 15 local investors we met at DemoDay, in that order. Use the event page copy I saved, add the updated address and door code, and flag anyone who already said they’re coming so I don’t double-invite. Deadline: send by Tuesday 5 PM after you run the duplicate check.

Improve — make it easier to accept

Before I blast the event invite, make it as easy as possible for people to say yes: surface the date, time and location at the top; show ‘Who’s coming’ and highlight five mutual connections; add a one-line benefit for founders and a one-line benefit for investors; make the RSVP button obvious; and flag any phrasing that might sound too salesy for investors. Show me the revised preview and a one-sentence note on anything you removed.

Decide — diagnose the stuck moment

I previewed the invite and two investors are set to receive it but one complained about spam.

I just previewed the invite list: Claire from RedBridge and Marcus from Orion are queued, and Marcus called our office complaining about too many event emails. I don’t know whether he’s opted out or if we messaged him through his company page. I’m worried sending now will burn the relationship, and I can’t tell procurement at Orion who to reach out to. Should I remove both investors from the send, pause and call Marcus, or proceed but change the tone? Recommend the safest immediate move and what to say on a call if I reach him.

Become — change the pattern

We keep getting complaints or low turnout after invites go out.

Over the last six events we mailed the same list and turnout dropped from 48 to 22 people. We waste time chasing no-shows and damage relationships when investors feel spammed. I think our invite list is stale and our copy is too sales-first. What habit should I change so invites convert and don’t irritate investors? Give one concrete change to the list selection process and one to the invite copy we send.

Other professional network work people do in LinkedIn.

Every task here came from the work, not from a feature list — which is why the prompts name what you want done and never the button that does it. The tool changes; the work does not.
