दान का हिसाब

राजा कर्ण सबसे बड़े दानवीर के रूप में प्रसिद्ध थे, क्योंकि वे किसी को भी कभी खाली हाथ नहीं लौटाते थे। भगवान श्रीकृष्ण गरीब ब्राह्मण का वेश बनाकर उनकी परीक्षा लेने आए और पूछा कि कर्ण ने कुल कितना दान दिया है। कर्ण ने उत्तर दिया कि वे अपने दान का कोई हिसाब नहीं रखते, क्योंकि हिसाब रखने से उन्हें घमंड हो जाएगा और दान का असली सुख समाप्त हो जाएगा। श्रीकृष्ण इस उत्तर से बहुत प्रसन्न हुए और समझ गए कि कर्ण को सही ही सबसे बड़ा दानवीर क्यों कहा जाता है।

King Karna was famous as the greatest giver, for he never sent anyone away empty-handed. Lord Krishna, disguised as a poor Brahmin, came to test him and asked how much charity Karna had given in all. Karna replied that he kept no account of his giving, because keeping a record would fill him with pride and spoil the true joy of charity. Krishna was delighted with this answer and realised why Karna was rightly called the greatest donor.

True charity is giving with a pure heart without keeping count of it, so that no pride enters the mind.
