Distance is how far something goes. We measure distance with steps, metres or kilometres. For example, the distance from home to school might be 200 metres.

Time is how long it takes to go somewhere. We use seconds, minutes or hours. For example, it may take 10 minutes to walk to school.

Speed tells us how fast we move. If we go a long distance in a short time, we are going fast. If it takes a long time to go a short distance, we are going slow.

Comfort means how pleasant a journey is. A comfortable trip is smooth, has a soft seat, enough space and is not too noisy. Comfort is different from speed: a fast ride (like an aeroplane) can be very comfortable, but sometimes a slow bus may also be comfortable if it has good seats.

To find out speed we compare distance and time. Simple idea: speed = how far ÷ how long. You can try this with a toy car, a clock and a ruler to see which toy car is faster.
