Inside a Telescope

Explore optical light paths to discover how curved mirrors and lenses magnify distant space objects.

Welcome to the optical telescope lab! Step inside a Newtonian reflecting telescope to see how light is captured and focused.

In this explorer, we will find 15 optical parts, including the primary mirror, secondary mirror, aperture, eyepiece lens, and tripod stand. Let's learn their names in English and Hindi.

Focus your lens and let's explore!

Optics & Light Paths

Reflecting telescopes use a curved concave primary mirror at the back to collect light. The light bounces forward to an angled flat secondary mirror, which redirects the focal point out the side of the telescope tube into the eyepiece lens. Lenses in the eyepiece magnify the image for your eyes.

Telescope Safety Tips

Never look at the Sun through a telescope! The lenses focus light rays so strongly they can damage your eyes.
