SAT Vocabulary

Words you'll actually remember.

7,371 words, each taught the way a word is really learned — through a story, its roots, and a sentence someone might genuinely say. Not a stack of definitions to drill until the test.

How it works

Four steps, about ten minutes
  1. 1

    Pick where to start

A difficulty tier, a curriculum list like CBSE or IB, or a theme that interests you. Nothing is locked — you can change it any time.

  2. 2

    Meet the word properly

Its definition, a real sentence, the root it grew from, and a story built to make it stick. Read it, or have it read to you.

  3. 3

    Prove you have it

A quick quiz on what you just saw, or a reading passage where you work the meaning out from context rather than recall it.

  4. 4

    Keep what slipped

Bookmark the ones that caught you out and sit a timed test on exactly those. That list is the only one worth revising.

Your syllabus, not a generic list

The same corpus, cut to your board

A CBSE student in Delhi and an IB student in Geneva do not need the same thousand words. Every word here is tagged by curriculum, so each list is the slice that matters to you.

Six ways to meet a word

Because one repetition is not learning

Word cards

Definition, example, etymology and a story hook built to make the word stick.

Flash mode

Timed exposure you control — and can interrupt at any moment to quiz, define or save.

Word Explorer

Search 72,000+ words by pattern, rhyme, length, root, prefix or suffix.

Reading (RTC)

2,280 passages that make you infer a word's meaning from context.

Community polls

How other people actually use the word, not how a dictionary says they should.

Why it works this way

The argument, briefly

A definition tells you what a word means. It does not tell you when a person would reach for it, what it does to a sentence, or why it feels different from its nearest synonym. That is the part a test actually measures, and it is the part a flashcard cannot carry.

So every word arrives with a story to hook the memory, the root it grew from — which quietly unlocks a hundred more — a sentence in the wild, and a passage where you have to work the meaning out for yourself. Slower per word. Far fewer words forgotten.

Before you start

The usual questions
Do I need an account?

No. Progress, bookmarks and saved words live in your browser. Use the same browser and they will be waiting for you.

Which tier should I begin with?

Core (Tier 2) if you are preparing for the SAT and want the highest return per hour. Basic if you want to be certain of the foundation first. You can move between tiers freely — nothing is locked.

How long does a session take?

About ten minutes for a set of words. Flash mode is faster and deliberately harder; reading passages take longer because they ask you to infer rather than recall.

Is it free?

Yes, all of it.

What is in the Word Explorer?

A much larger word list — around 72,000 — searchable by pattern, rhyme, length, first letter, root, prefix and suffix. It is built for crossword setters, writers and the curious as much as for test preparation.

Ready when you are.
