What do Easy / Medium / Difficult mean?

Words are tiered by complexity and frequency. Easy words appear often and are foundational. Medium words require more context. Difficult words are advanced or specialized. Start with Easy, level up as you master each tier.

What are “clean phrases”?

Multi-word expressions like “nervous system” or “moral courage” extracted from 1,579 classic books. Clean phrases start and end with meaningful words (nouns, verbs, adjectives). Fragments that start or end with articles, prepositions, or pronouns are filtered separately so you see the best phrases first.

How do I search for a specific word?

Type any word in the search bar at the top. You’ll see which lists contain it and at what tier (Easy, Medium, or Difficult). In Literary DNA, search finds which books use the word and how frequently. The search works across all tabs.

The vocabulary and phrases that make each classic book unique. We analyzed 1,579 Gutenberg books and extracted 920K+ phrases, ranked by frequency. Open any book to see its most distinctive words, common phrases, and the language patterns that define its style.

What does the Random button do?
