What is a Materials Chemist?

Materials Chemist builds advanced materials and functional coatings. You develop formulations, test stability, and refine performance for products like medicines, coatings, cosmetics, food, or materials.

You spend days planning and running experiments in an environmentally controlled lab: preparing samples, testing metals and polymers for tensile, compression, shear, abrasion, and thermal resistance, and performing microstructure analysis and computer modeling. Between runs you write technical reports, confer with customers, and refine testing methods.
