What is a Live Sound Engineer?
A live sound engineer is responsible for the audio quality experienced by the audience at live events. They operate mixing consoles, adjust audio levels, and troubleshoot technical issues to ensure the sound is clear, balanced, and impactful. They work closely with artists and event organizers to achieve the desired sonic aesthetic.
You spend most days setting up and testing microphones, consoles, and recording equipment, conferring with producers and performers about the desired sound, and regulating levels during performances. Between shows you keep session logs, troubleshoot and report gear problems, and carefully tear down and inventory equipment. Live minutes are intense; much of the role is disciplined, hands-on console work and accurate documentation to make every show repeatable.
