What is a Research Psychologist?
Research Psychologists design and conduct studies to understand human behavior, cognition, and emotion. They formulate hypotheses, collect data through various methods, analyze findings, and publish their results to advance scientific knowledge.
You spend much of the day designing tests and rating scales, observing and interviewing workers to define job requirements, and running statistical analyses to evaluate programs. Frequent e-mail and written reports link you to HR clients and teams; face-to-face meetings and phone calls clarify priorities. Time alternates between instrument development, data analysis, and advising management on implementing selection or placement programs.

The path to get there
🇺🇸 Anglosphere (US, UK, Canada, Australia)
Paths typically begin with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, followed by a Master's or Doctoral (PhD/PsyD) degree. Emphasis is placed on research experience, publications, and strong statistical skills. Postdoctoral fellowships are common for further specialization before securing independent research positions or faculty roles.
