LLOS Education · Study abroad

Your path abroad, from where you are.

Pick your stage and stream. See what you can study, where, which exams you need — and the one thing families most often get wrong.

After Class 12

Bachelor's degrees abroad. Start in Class 11 — most deadlines fall between October and January of Class 12, before your board results.

Science — PCB

Know this: For MBBS abroad you must qualify NEET-UG and choose a course that meets NMC's rules, or you cannot practise in India. In the USA and Canada medicine is only a graduate degree — you would do a 4-year bachelor's first.

Commerce

Know this: Economics, finance and data science at top universities expect Class 12 Mathematics. Commerce without maths narrows the list — check each course's subject requirements.

Humanities / Arts

Know this: Law is a first degree (LLB) in the UK, Ireland, Australia and Singapore but not in the USA or Canada. Design and fine arts decide on your portfolio — start building it in Class 11.

Timeline

  1. Class 11 (Apr–Dec)shortlist countries and subjects, keep school marks high (predicted grades matter), start SAT prep if the USA is on the list.
  2. Class 11 summerSAT / English test attempt one; build activities, projects, competitions.
  3. Class 12 (Aug–Oct)essays / personal statement, teacher recommendations, UCAS by mid-October for Oxford, Cambridge and medicine.
  4. Class 12 (Nov–Jan)US Early rounds (1–15 Nov), UCAS equal-consideration date (mid-January), US Regular (1–15 Jan), Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong windows.
  5. Class 12 (Feb–May)offers arrive; conditional offers depend on board results; scholarships and education loan.
  6. After results (May–Aug)meet conditions, confirm place, visa, accommodation, fly in August/September.

After graduation

Master's, MBA and PhD abroad — the route most Indian students take. Apply 10–14 months before the course starts.

Master's (MS / MSc / MEng)

Know this: UK and Irish master's are usually one year; US, German and Canadian ones two. Post-study work rights differ more than tuition does — compare them in the country guides.

MBA / business master's

Know this: Top MBAs expect 3–6 years of full-time work. Fresh graduates look at a Master's in Management (MIM) or MSc Finance instead.

PhD / research

Know this: A PhD abroad in science and engineering is usually fully funded with a stipend. In Europe PhD posts are paid jobs, applied for one by one.

LLM, MD / MS, MPH (professional)

Know this: Practising medicine, dentistry or law abroad needs that country's licensing exam (USMLE, PLAB/UKMLA, AMC, bar exams) — a degree alone is not a licence.

Timeline

  1. Final year, semester 1 (Jul–Oct)GRE/GMAT and IELTS/TOEFL, shortlist 8–12 programmes, request recommendation letters.
  2. Oct–Janstatements of purpose, applications — US PhD deadlines are usually 1–15 December; many master's run to January–March.
  3. Jan–Aprinterviews, admits, funding offers (assistantships, scholarships), education loan.
  4. Apr–Juldeposit, visa appointment, final transcripts, fly for the August–September intake. January intakes run six months later.

Where this comes from

Ranks are copied, with their year, from ShanghaiRanking's ShanghaiRanking ARWU 2025 and its Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2025 — LLOS does not rank universities. Addresses, websites and locations come from Wikidata; US numbers from the US College Scorecard. Admission details and country rules were read from each university's and government's own pages — every profile lists its sources and the date they were checked.

Rupee figures use European Central Bank reference rates of 2026-09-25 and are a guide, not a quote. Deadlines, fees and visa rules change every year: always confirm on the official page before you apply or pay. LLOS takes no commission from any university, agent or lender.
