01 · The overview

What is a Librarian Assistant?

You spend shifts at the public desk and behind the catalog: checking materials in and out, answering reference queries using standard reference books and online databases, teaching patrons basic computer and database skills, correcting cataloging errors, and maintaining circulation records. Between patron interactions you help evaluate materials for purchase and support programs. Much of the work is hands-on troubleshooting of collections and systems.
