01 · The overview

What is a Food Technologist?

Food Technologist builds food chemistry and product development. You develop formulations, test stability, and refine performance for products like medicines, coatings, cosmetics, food, or materials.

You split time between bench formulation and the plant floor: testing flavor, texture, color, and nutritional content in controlled labs, then inspecting processing areas and conferring with engineers and operators to resolve production problems. Much of the day is iterative: adjust composition or process, run stability and sensory tests, and update specifications so pilot successes scale to compliant production without increasing waste.
