छोटी-सी हमारी नदी

इस कविता में कवि एक छोटी-सी नदी का वर्णन करते हैं और बताते हैं कि वह ऋतु के अनुसार किस प्रकार बदल जाती है। गर्मी में नदी में बहुत कम पानी रहता है, जिसमें केवल काई और पत्थर होते हैं, और लोग तथा बच्चे आसानी से उसे पार कर लेते हैं या उसमें तैरते हैं। परंतु बरसात के मौसम में वही छोटी नदी भरपूर और गहरी हो जाती है। वह उठती है, लहरें बनाती है, विकराल रूप में नाचती है, अपने किनारे तोड़ देती है और इतनी शक्तिशाली हो जाती है कि उसमें हाथी-घोड़े तक डूब सकते हैं। कविता नदी के दो सुंदर और विपरीत रूपों को दिखाती है।

In this poem the poet describes a small river and how it changes with the seasons. In summer the river has very little water, with only moss and stones, and people and children easily cross or swim in it. But in the rainy season the same small river becomes full and deep. It rises, makes waves and dances wildly, breaks its banks and becomes so powerful that even elephants and horses can drown in it. The poem shows the two beautiful and contrasting forms of a river.

The central idea of the poem is that a small river has two very different forms in two seasons - gentle and shallow in summer, but full, deep and powerful in the rainy season.
