The friendship of Jumman and Algu is tested twice in the story. First, Algu gives a fair verdict against Jumman in the aunt's case, which makes Jumman angry and breaks their friendship. For a long time they remain enemies. Then comes the second test, when Jumman becomes the panch in Algu's bullock case. Though Jumman could have taken revenge, he chooses justice and rules in Algu's favour. After the panchayat, Jumman embraces Algu, admits that Algu had only done his duty earlier, and apologises for his own anger. Algu, who holds no grudge, gladly reunites with him. This shows that their friendship was never based on blind support but on honesty and respect. Because both valued fairness above personal feelings, their friendship returns stronger than before and becomes truly noble.
