Indian students go to Sweden for English-taught master's programmes at research-strong technical universities, though non-EU/EEA students pay tuition (Sweden ended free tuition for non-EU students in 2011). All applications go through the single national portal universityadmissions.se, and a residence permit for higher-education studies now carries stricter work and study-progress conditions since June 2026.

Work while studying

Maximum 15 hours per week during semesters (unlimited in June, July and August) for bachelor's/master's students, under the rules effective 11 June 2026; exceptions apply to internships, student-representative roles, and programme-related research/teaching/artistic work. After completing at least two semesters of study, the work-hour limit no longer applies.
