- The entry-level exam of the CMA (Cost and Management Accountant) course. Passing it lets you register for CMA Intermediate. Graduates and ICAI/ICSI Intermediate pass students are exempt and can register for Intermediate directly.
- Who can sit
- You can take admission to the Foundation course after Class 10; you can sit the Foundation exam once you have passed Class 12 (or an equivalent such as a National Diploma in Commerce). Admission must be done by 31 January for the June exam and by 31 July for the December exam, and includes compulsory coaching.
- Pattern
- Four papers (Syllabus 2022): Fundamentals of Business Laws and Business Communication; Fundamentals of Financial and Cost Accounting; Fundamentals of Business Mathematics and Statistics; Fundamentals of Business Economics and Management. To pass you need 40% in each paper and 50% aggregate.
- When
- Twice a year, in June and December.
- Limits
- No age or attempt limit is set in the prospectus.
