Polytechnic entrance tests (state)

Each state's technical education body, for example the Joint Entrance Examination Council (Polytechnic), Uttar Pradesh (UPJEE/JEECUP), the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (DCECE), the Telangana State Board of Technical Education (TG POLYCET) and Andhra Pradesh's SBTET (AP POLYCET).

Admits you to

Three-year diploma courses in engineering and technology at government and private polytechnics in that state, and in several states pharmacy diplomas and other diploma/certificate programmes (UP's exam runs separate groups for engineering, pharmacy and other diplomas). Diploma holders can later join B.Tech in the second year through lateral entry.

Who can sit

Class 10 pass (or appearing) for engineering diplomas, usually with Mathematics and Science; some groups (such as pharmacy diplomas) need Class 12. Most seats are for students domiciled in or schooled in the state. Each state sets minimum marks and any age rule.

Pattern

Varies by state. UP's UPJEE (Polytechnic) is an online computer-based test run group-wise (Group A engineering, Group E pharmacy and others). Other states use Class 10-level Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry papers; check the state's own brochure.

When

Mostly April–June after Class 10 board exams (UP's 2026 test ran in mid-to-late May, applications January–April); counselling June–August.

Limits

Set by each state; generally no attempt limit.
