- Who can sit
- A bachelor's degree in any subject from a recognised university (some posts need specific subjects, e.g. Statistics/Mathematics for Junior Statistical Officer). Age limits depend on the post, counted on 1 August of the exam year: 18–27 for most Group C posts, 18–30 or 20–30 for most Group B posts, 18–32 for some; with relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC, and more for PwBD and ex-servicemen.
- Pattern
- Two computer-based tiers. Tier I: 100 questions, 200 marks, 1 hour, in General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension (25 each, sectional timers), with 0.50 negative marking. Tier II: Paper I in sessions covering Mathematical Abilities and Reasoning (60 questions), English and General Awareness (70 questions), plus a qualifying Computer Knowledge test and a Data Entry Speed Test; some posts have additional papers (e.g. Statistics for JSO). Scores across shifts are normalised.
- When
- Notification around March–May; Tier I usually between June and October (the 2026 Tier I was scheduled for September–October); Tier II a few months later.
- Limits
- No limit on attempts; only the age limit for each post applies.
