Money is what people use to buy things they need and want. In everyday life money comes as coins and paper notes. We use money to pay for food, toys, bus rides and other things. In class you will see real or play coins and notes. You will touch them, look at the numbers on them and learn their names. Money has a value that does not change. A coin or note shows a number that tells its value. For example, a coin with the number 1 is worth one rupee.
It is important for children to know about money because it helps in counting and in making choices. When you learn money you practice adding and taking away, like when you buy something at a shop. Role-play with a small shop in the classroom makes learning fun. You can pretend to be a customer or shopkeeper, give coins or notes and receive change. Through these games you learn honesty, counting and how to plan what to buy with the money you have.
We will also learn simple rules: keep coins safe, count money slowly and always check the value when you are given change. Parents and teachers can help by letting children collect coins in a small box and count them together. This builds confidence and makes number work real and useful.
