Know this. The exam is in December of Class 12, months before board results, so preparation has to run alongside Class 12; and NLU Delhi is not in CLAT, it needs AILET.

- Admits you to
- Five-year integrated law degrees (BA LLB and similar) at the participating National Law Universities (all NLUs except NLU Delhi, which runs AILET). Many private law schools and some public-sector bodies also accept CLAT scores.
- Who can sit
- Class 12 (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks (40% for SC, ST and PwD). Students taking Class 12 in March/April of the admission year can apply but must show the pass result at admission. There is no upper age limit.
- Pattern
- Pen-and-paper, 2 hours, 120 multiple-choice questions of 1 mark each, with 0.25 deducted for each wrong answer. Five sections, all passage-based: English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. It tests reading and reasoning, not prior knowledge of law.
- When
- Usually on a Sunday in early December, for admission the following July. Applications open around August and close around October.
- Limits
- No upper age limit and no limit on attempts set by the Consortium.
