Know this. A commerce or arts student is eligible, but only for four of the seven institutes; check the subject table before assuming every IIT is open to you.

- The four-year B.Des at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, IIT Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur. Some other design schools also accept UCEED scores.
- Who can sit
- Any stream can sit the exam. For the 2026 exam: born on or after 1 October 2001 (1 October 1996 for SC, ST, PwD), and Class 12 taken for the first time in the current or previous year. For admission, arts, commerce and non-PCM science students can apply to IIT Bombay, Delhi, Hyderabad and Indore; IIT Guwahati and Roorkee need Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; IIITDM Jabalpur needs Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology.
- Pattern
- One 3-hour paper, 300 marks, in English. Part A (2 hours, 200 marks, computer-based): 14 numerical-answer questions (no negative marking), 15 multiple-select questions with partial marks, and 28 MCQs. Part B (1 hour, 100 marks): two drawing and design-aptitude questions shown on screen and answered on paper.
- When
- Usually a Sunday in mid-to-late January; results around March; B.Des seat allotment rounds from about June to July.
- Limits
- A maximum of two attempts, in consecutive years. The score is valid for one year only.
