Know this. Qualifying (50th percentile) only makes you eligible for counselling; a government MBBS seat needs a score far above that, so check last year's closing ranks, not the qualifying mark.
- Run by
- National Testing Agency (NTA), under rules of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and Dental Council of India
- Admits you to
- The single entrance for MBBS and BDS everywhere in India (including AIIMS and JIPMER), and for BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS (AYUSH). Results are also used for B.Sc Nursing at several central institutes and Military Nursing Service, and for the 15% all-India quota in BVSc & AH. Indians who want to study medicine abroad must also qualify NEET-UG.
- Who can sit
- You must be at least 17 years old by 31 December of the exam year; there is no upper age limit. You need Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English; those whose result is awaited may sit but must pass before the first counselling round. To qualify you must score at or above the 50th percentile (40th for SC, ST and OBC; 45th for general PwD).
- Pattern
- Pen-and-paper (OMR) test, single day and single shift, 180 minutes. 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions for 720 marks: Physics 45, Chemistry 45, Biology (Botany and Zoology) 90.
- When
