📖 Detailed Explanation

On the way to the forest, Sage Vishwamitra teaches Rama and Lakshmana many divine weapons (astras) and mantras. He tells them about the secrets of war and the use of weapons. Walking ahead, they reach a dense, frightening forest near the river Sarayu. The sage explains that long ago this area was prosperous, but now it lies deserted because of a fearsome demoness named Tadaka, who destroys everything and frightens the sages.

Vishwamitra asks Rama to kill Tadaka so that the sages can perform their yajnas (sacrifices) in peace. When Tadaka attacks with a terrible roar, Rama, on the sage's command, kills her with his arrows. The forest becomes peaceful again. Vishwamitra is very pleased and blesses Rama, giving him more powerful divine weapons.

After this, Vishwamitra begins his yajna. The demons Maricha and Subahu come to disturb it. Rama strikes Maricha with such force that he is flung far across the ocean, and he kills Subahu. The yajna is completed without any obstacle. The sages are happy, and Vishwamitra decides to take Rama and Lakshmana along to Janakpur, where King Janaka is holding a grand bow-sacrifice (dhanush-yajna).

On the way to Janakpur, they stop at the hermitage of Sage Gautama. There lies a stone which was once Ahalya, Gautama's wife, who had been cursed to become stone. As soon as the dust of Rama's feet touches the stone, Ahalya regains her human form. She worships Rama and is reunited with her husband. This shows Rama's divine and kind nature.

The title 'Jangal aur Janakpur' (Forest and Janakpur) is fitting because the chapter is divided into two main parts — first the events in the forest, where Rama kills demons and protects the yajna, and then the journey to Janakpur, the city where King Janaka's bow-sacrifice is being held.
